This is a protest song about the male chauvinism.
The next text is maybe the best explaining of the video Malamente of Rosalia Vila
I'll begin: 0:00-00:05 we can see a boy with an innocent gaze, like sad.
And he represents a boy who has just made contact with the macho society where
we live, and especially with what is instilled in him about how he has to treat women
(this is represented by the allegories of the bullfight) and, or he don't notices anything
or gives him pity.
00:05-00:12 We observe how over time to the continuous contact with the society,
that innocent look has been erased from that face, and has gone on to reproduce all the
behaviors that are around him, his gaze has become even aggressive.
00: 12-00: 18 Rosalía also adopts the roles that society has imposed and attends
to his partner (the boy who appears before in the videoclip) cleaning him, because
according to him it is imposed, he is for her.
00: 19-00: 30 Here we see a man (representing his partner) pursuing her, which
causes an accident. This could be a metaphor for how she observes that certain
behaviors she has (putting on a very short skirt, hanging out with friends, men at parties ..)
unleash aggressive reactions from her partner, and she avoids them. But still, she ends up
being run over. In this scene Rosalia represents her own freedom and has retreated until
she has had more, which has ended in her total disappearance.
00:29 Without the filter of the rest of the scenes we observe the bullfighting boy,
which symbolizes that the direct cause of the outrage is him reproducing the behaviors
that he has learned.
00: 31-00: 35 We see Rosalía inside a truck, we still do not understand very well why,
but we denote that she is in a position that without a doubt, although it is not uncomfortable
at least it would be more comfortable with more space.
00: 35-00: 43 Here we see Rosalía again cleaning her partner, but we also observe
that he has tattooed the virgin of the pains in his side, which would mean that the result
of what he has learned has had as a consequence the pain of the woman who "is in (with)
her skin"Rosalía
00:43- 00:49 Nothing that had not explained before, he continues with his contact with society
as if nothing.
00: 49-1: 10 In this verse we observe all the time the same 2 scenes: Rosalía being
entered by many men in a truck, and she and other four girls dancing inside. The first
scene represents the total abduction of her freedom by means of an abusive relationship
(the truck) and the second shows that she is not the only one who has that story, that this
is not isolated cases, that she is singing this for all who suffer this.
1: 10-1: 11 is one of the most important, a new dancer is leaning out of a car, hits two
slaps with her eyes fixed on the camera. It represents the awakening of Rosalia to realize
that she is inside a truck, she may be a friend who says YEEEE or herself or even a
personification of feminism (I think this is the latter, basically because she is a redhead,
since Redheads were considered witches in antiquity and one of the most famous feminist
slogans is "we are the daughters of witches that you could not kill".
1: 11-1: 15 Rosalia and three of her friends (the fourth does not appear in this scene)
are dancing near the car, but with other clothes and in a somewhat shy way.
They are approaching feminism / awakening / awareness of their situation.
1: 15-1: 22 In these scenes they are getting ready to reveal themselves making the
motorcycle,in addition they already dance with less shyness, even Rosalía dares to
shout "¡MIRA!" to the camera while slightly opening the jacket. But if you look, who is
creating the motorbike is a different person, it is not Rosalia or the dancers, maybe the
redhead girl, the feminism / the awakening.
1: 22-1: 28 In these scenes the men's cars are shown, with threatening tunings
(quite tacky and overloaded too), which represent the power of man. In addition they are
armed with their symbols of bullfighters, remember that they were sexist symbols.
1: 29-1: 30 At this moment there is an image of a bull and after Rosalia on a motorcycle,
it resembles a bull, which comes to fight against its bullfighters. This represents the conflict
that is going to involve trying to break with him when, remember, she is being controlled by
his partner.
1: 30-1: 31 In this second, when Rosalía sings in front of the car with the mounted tent,
we can notice that the car does not have a threatening tunning, nor is it high-end.
The "power of the woman" is not so strong, but it does not need to be aggressive against
the man.
1: 32-1: 40 Rosalía leaves the truck that represents the toxic relationship where she lives
and finds her way, and the man trying to block her way, trying to kill her, as a bullfighter
1: 41-1: 46 Rosalie crosses herself and appears the Nazarene / penitent / capuchin ...
skater. For me it represents the ordeal for which he will spend trying to get out of the
relationship, because Nazarenes leave almost all of the Holy Week except the last days.
Besides, the fact that he uses mortifications supports the hypothesis that he represents
the hard ordeal he has to carry out, because the penitents are mortified, if I remember
correctly on Friday or Holy Saturday (one of those days is that of Calvary).
1: 46-2: 00 Now she dances challenging the camera, basically because it is one of the things
that disturbs his boyfriend the most, if we look closer we can see that the dance has a lot of
arm movement, and that movement could resemble When punches are given during a fight,
she is challenging and fighting for her freedom / to get out of the toxic relationship.
2: 00-2: 06 She returns to drive the motorcycle against her partner, this time they make
eye contact, she has a smile and he has a look of rage, fruit of the loss of control over
his partner.
2: 06-2: 09 Rosalía continues dancing and we watch the Nazarene skater taking the
momentum to take a big leap. This symbolizes that she is about to finish the Calvary,
she only needs one last impulse
2: 09-2: 21 Like the Nazarene, Rosalia takes impulse and envistes the cloak 2 times,
the second makes a little horse and looks triumphant at her partner , he has the rapier
behind him, looking down, she knows it.
2: 21-2: 23 The Nazarene is about to make the leap, Holy Saturday is about to end.
2: 21-2: 28 The girls finish the video with a step that sums it up, its fall and rise. Simply
with the gesture of tilting the back with the help of the legs represent the fall, then Rosalia
sings directly to the camera, which represents the awakening, and raise the back again,
leaving her upright.
2: 29-2: 38 The Nazarene takes the leap, which symbolizes that the ordeal has
ended at last and reveals a huge cross, with a sticker with 4 crosses underneath.
The biggest cross represents Rosalia, the one that has more weight in the whole video,
but the other 4 crosses of the sticker represent the other 4 women who were in the truck
with her, you can deduce because it says "INDEPENDENT TRUCK COMPANY"
(Independent truck company). The crosses I do not think symbolize his death, but his
resurrection, because the day after the holy Saturday is resurrection Sunday and his
symbol is the empty cross, with a white sheet on top, which could be represented by
the stickers that have stuck together around them, they form a spiral. Well, I have a very
long comment, but chiquis is what there is. For those who do not want to read, the summary
is this: Rosalia cuts her freedom, she runs out of it and falls into a toxic relationship, then
realizes her situation, confronts her abuser and is reborn. But like her there are many
more women.
And that is the meaning of the video.
Lyrics:
That broken crystallite
I felt like crunching
before falling to the ground
I already knew that it was breaking
It is blinking
the light of the landing
a voice from the staircase
someone crossed the corridor
Badly, (well, yes) badly
track track bad, very bad, very bad, very bad
look, badly, (take that it takes) badly
badly, badly, very badly very bad very badly
badly
It has been put on the weird night
moon and stars have come out
that gypsy told me
(What?) Better not go out and see her (no)
I'm dreaming that I'm walking
by a bridge that gives sidewalk
The more I want to cross it
more moves and wobbles
Badly, (well, yes) badly
track track bad, very bad, very bad, very bad
look, badly, (take that it takes) badly
badly, badly, very badly very bad very badly
badly
Although not this pretty
do not forget
I'm going out for the street, the pretty
the hoops shining on my skin
The corals
protect me, save me
Illuminate keep me
and ahead, I will not lose
not a minute to think again
Badly, (well, yes) badly
track track bad, very bad, very bad, very bad
look, badly, (take that it takes) badly
badly, badly, very badly very bad very badly
badly ...
